DISCUSSION:

Recommendation

On February 7, 2024, the New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation (NBEDC) approved a project expenditure of $8 million for the purchase of approximately 130 acres in northwest New Braunfels to be used for future park space within the New Braunfels Parks System.  City Council approved the project expenditure on February 12, 2024.  The 2017 Parks and Recreation Master Plan supported acquiring additional parkland to maintain and grow service levels and meet parkland targets.  The site’s mix of developable acreage and wooded land supports both active recreation and trail/conservation potential, aligning with the systemwide need to expand capacity and amenities as New Braunfels grows.

In December 2024, the City approved a design contract with RVi Planning + Architecture to develop the Northwest Park Master Plan. Park development fees funded the master plan development. The City will present the master plan for consideration for recommendation for adoption.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends that the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board make a recommendation to City Council to adopt the master plan for Northwest Park.
