BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) was awarded construction funding through the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) Transportation Alternatives Program to improve IH 35 and Solms Road interchange. The scope will construct turnarounds, turn lanes, and pedestrian facilities.

 

The City Council passed a resolution of support on June 12, 2023, for TxDOT to submit as part of their project submission to AAMPO. The City also agreed to provide a voluntary local contribution of funds due to the TxDOT project overlapping the City’s 2023 Bond Program Solms Road project and to increase the project's scoring in the Transportation Alternative Program. The City’s participation is $975,000, a fixed amount for the project.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval authorizing the City Manager to enter into an Advanced Funding Agreement between the City of New Braunfels and the Texas Department of Transportation for the Solms Road and IH-35 improvement project.
