BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Staff identified areas within Section 66-60 that would benefit from an amendment. The amendments were discussed and presented to the Historic Landmark Commission on April 9th, 2024, at their regular meeting and received a recommendation for approval.

ISSUE:

Amendments to the ordinance are needed to address issues of clarity and consistency as it relates to the demolition and house move review process. With limited buildable land, staff has seen an increase in demolition permits and house move permits. As demolition, and in cases of moving houses outside of the city limits, can be considered a permanent loss of a potential historic resource it is important to ensure that the process is very clear for both applicants and the Historic Landmark Commissioners.
