DISCUSSION:

Zipp Family Sports Park Grand Opening

The grand opening of the Zipp Family Sports Park was held on June 20, 2026 and was a huge success. We had a 3K fun run with 150 participants, a pitch, hit, and run event with 88 participants and a soccer shootout with 20 participants. We also showcased exhibitors, food and a family fun zone with inflatables and our Rec n’ Roll. Our raffle provided us with $4,450 towards scholarships for youth sports. Highlights of the sports that weekend include a 53-team baseball tournament playing 97 games and 15 soccer teams playing 22 games. It was a busy weekend full of laughter, smiles and sports fun!

Landa Recreation Center

Katelyn Reyna has been promoted to Assistant Recreation Supervisor for the Landa Recreation Center. She has been on the team at Landa for about six months, and prior to that was a part of our Athletics Division. We are excited to have her on the team and the continued energy she brings.

Beautification Team

Four staff from the City's "Beautification Crew" have transferred from Public Works to the Parks Department. This team will be focusing on the upkeep of the most visible public spaces in New Braunfels, such as Walnut Avenue, Main Plaza, fire stations, and libraries.

New Recreation Software Approved

Parks staff are very excited to begin the transition to a new recreation and reservation software, Amilia SmartRec, over the next several months. The new system will replace the department’s current system, RecTrac, that has been in use since 2017. The public launch of the new system is expected in early spring 2027.

Staffing level update

Summer is in full swing, and all divisions are working hard as a team to provide service to our community. Landa Recreation is fully staffed. Fischer Park just hired their last seasonal two weeks ago and is fully staffed. Athletics is searching for one PTR staff member to fill their total of 7. Aquatics is currently sitting at 21/24 cashiers, 8/8 coordinators, 40/60 lifeguards. Park Rangers currently have 32/48 seasonal rangers.
