BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The City has been with Spectrum internet and enterprise TV services for many years.  As services are renewed this year a new 3-year agreement is necessary to support additional services. We will be upgrading the Police Departments internet bandwidth, upgrading our internal enterprise TV equipment at City Hall, DasRec and adding DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) protection.

The Police Department’s current 500mb service is no longer sufficient with the additional cloud services being utilized and is being maxed out frequently. These services will increase the bandwidth to 1Gbps.

In addition, the current Spectrum enterprise TV service in use at City Hall and DasRec has been phased out and needs to be upgraded to their new offering. This will replace the outdated hardware and allow for better support.

The contract will add Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection to all City internet circuits that are monitored year-round by Spectrum. DDoS attacks are increasingly easier, faster and less expensive to deploy. They are initiated with the goal of flooding your internet connection to halt your network operations, potentially causing damage to your reputation, loss in revenue or both.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The total cost of this 3-year contract is $135,360. There is a one-time installation fee of $1,000 for the enterprise TV equipment. Sufficient funds are available in the FY 2026 Information Technology Budget; however, this contract is actually expected to result in an overall cost savings due to the efficient improvements it creates.
