BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Fire Department has been awarded $71,998.74 from Senate Bill 8 funds that go towards furthering EMS education for first responders. The department will be sending nine members to paramedic school at a cost of $7,999.86 per member. Members obtaining their paramedic certification increases the level of service to the citizens and works towards the department's strategic goal of 100% paramedics. The class will be taught by EMTS Academy and held at the fire department's training center.

ISSUE:

The Fire Department is working to increase the level of service by increasing the number of paramedics within the department.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The department will be using Special Revenue funds that were received from a STRACC Grant which is fully reimbursable, therefore, there are sufficient funds available for this expenditure.
