BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Fire Station #5 was built in 1988 and currently houses one medic unit, one engine, and six fire staff.  The current station is not functional for the needs of the staff and has several safety concerns regarding firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE) storage, PPE decontamination (washing), and vehicle entry into the station.  This project will include an update to the living quarters, including the kitchen and restroom facilities, an exterior expansion area for proper PPE decontamination and storage, and a workout area.  The outside areas will also be improved to address the appropriate number of parking spaces and secured parking.

A solicitation for Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) services was issued on September 5, 2023, and the City received three responses on October 12, 2023. City Staff reviewed the submissions and interviewed the top firm after consensus scoring. The evaluation committee unanimously selected Trimbuilt based on the scoring of their solicitation response and interview as the best construction manager for this project.

Trimbuilt worked with RVK Architecture to finalize the design for the renovation of Fire Station #5 and developed a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) of $1,854,561 to complete the construction of this project.  City staff recommends approval of an owner’s contingency of $70,000 for a total of $1,924,561.
