BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The purpose of this agreement is to provide New Braunfels Fire Department members who hold Texas Commission of Fire Protection (TCFP) Wildland Firefighter certifications the opportunity to participate in live-fire prescribed burn training with the TPWD at TPWD managed lands as part of its normal land management activities within the State of Texas. The City and TPWD previously engaged in an agreement with the same terms in July 2021, Therefore, the attached Resolution Amendment serves to extend the term of the agreement five (5) years to July 15, 2031. This allows training to continue to be available for Fire Department team members.

ISSUE:

Firefighters with TCFP Wildland Firefighter Certifications have limited opportunities to obtain training that will prepare them for ‘real-world’ wildfire scenarios. This program allows training to take place during prescribed burns in a semi-controlled environment.
