BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

On 10/14/2024 City Council approved the purchase of certain Police Department vehicles from Lake Country Chevrolet. After approval it was determined that it would be a better value to the City to purchase these in stock vehicles from Reliable Chevrolet. Therefore, staff is requesting approval for the purchase of vehicles from Reliable Chevrolet. These vehicles are a combination of replacement vehicles that are being retired from service, and new vehicles for department use to support new staff positions or new capital requests approved in the FY 2025 Budget. Any replacement vehicles have either met or exceeded their useful life as determined by Fleet Services.

 

The City will purchase the vehicles from Reliable Chevrolet, using a cooperative agreement with the Sheriffs Association. The schedule below provides the detail for each purchase.

In addition, staff recommends declaring the replaced vehicles surplus which allows for the future sale or donation of the asset.

 

 

ISSUE:

Staff are requesting to purchase eight police Tahoes from Reliable Chevrolet that are currently approved for purchase through Lake Country Chevrolet to maintain fiscal stability of city operations.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The costs for vehicles described above are incorporated into the FY 2025 Adopted Budget within the 2024 Tax Note, Equipment Replacement Fund, and the FY 2025 General Fund. Therefore, sufficient funds are available to purchase the vehicles.

Recommendation

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of purchases of vehicles with Reliable Chevrolet for the City of New Braunfels Police Department and approval to declare replaced units as surplus.
