BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
In 2012, New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) began planning for the redevelopment of their vacant property and buildings located on 16-acres at 333 E. Klingemann Street. The community-led planning effort led to the development of a plan for the site as a community event and education center highlighting the environmental and cultural significance of the Comal Springs. NBU adopted the master plan for the site in 2014 and broke ground on the project (The Headwaters).
The project is being completed in Phases; Phase I was completed in 2017 and Phase II broke ground in early 2023. Phase II is an $8M project and will construct the Center at the Headwaters, a 6,400 square foot facility to meet critical needs including meeting and conference space, offices, restrooms, an educational area, exhibition space, and a picnic/commons area.
The New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation (NBEDC) approved a $1.2M grant at its March 31, 2022 meeting. The New Braunfels City Council approved the grant at its April 11, 2022 meeting.
This presentation will provide the NBEDC an update on the Phase II project.
