COUNCIL DISTRICTS IMPACTED: Citywide
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City currently contracts with an outside law firm to provide prosecutorial services for municipal court. Ms. Bliss and Mr. Anable currently serve as contract attorneys for the City and using their services in prosecutorial duties would help with efficiency and generate cost savings. Their prosecutorial services will be used on an as-needed basis and are anticipated to consist primarily of providing legal services to Code Enforcement, Municipal Court and the Police Department. This amendment will not impact hours or pay, but will expand the types of work they can help with, which will save the organization money from our current prosecution contract. These are professional services requiring a higher level of knowledge and therefore are competitively exempt. Selection is solely based on qualifications and knowledge.
ISSUE:
Additional prosecutorial services are needed for Municipal Court. The City Charter delegates the hiring of attorneys to the City Attorney with final approval resting with the City Council.
