BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have issued a Call for Projects presenting funding opportunities for transportation projects. The AAMPO opportunity is for the Fiscal Year 2027-2030 Transportation Improvement Program, including Surface Transportation Block Grant, Transportation Alternatives, and Carbon Reduction funding programs. TxDOT has issued the 2025 Transportation Alternatives Call for Projects to plan and construct pedestrian and bicycle facilities. Additionally, it is expected that the Federal Highway Administration will issue another round of Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program funds to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.
The funding opportunities are competitive, and city staff is developing potential transportation projects that will compete well and be project-ready for the anticipated programs. The projects are included in the unfunded capital improvement plan and city master plans and programs. City staff will present the potential projects for city council input and subsequent resolutions. City staff is also working with TxDOT on potential projects on the state highway system within New Braunfels and the region.
