BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Staff are requesting approval of purchase of vehicles for various City Departments. These vehicles are a combination of replacement vehicles that are being retired from service, and new vehicles for department use to support new staff positions or new capital requests approved in the FY 2027 Budget. Any replacement vehicles have either met or exceeded their useful life as determined by our fleet services division.
The City has standardized Ford and Chevrolet for city fleet vehicles based on their operational reliability, cost, and after purchase care. Bluebonnet Motors is being utilized through a city contract with government pricing, and is our local fleet dealer. Caldwell Chevrolet is being utilized through a Buyboard agreement which also utilizes government pricing. Chevrolet’s police vehicle options, space, and police equipment options support the city’s standards. All the vehicles will be manufactured to ensure government pricing and will take several months to be delivered.
The City will utilize multiple vendors: Bluebonnet Motors Ford and Caldwell Country Chevrolet, all of which have been competitively vetted and are providing government pricing either through an existing city contract or Buyboard pricing. The schedule below provides details for each purchase. While the total cost is approximately $1.46 million, purchasing replacement and new vehicles is a standard process that occurs annually. As stated earlier, the replacement funds and allocations for vehicles associated with new positions were incorporated into the FY 2027 Adopted Budget.
