BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City of New Braunfels has initiated a Curb Management Study to assess current and future demands on the curb and pedestrian right-of-way within Downtown New Braunfels. The Curb Management Study will incorporate curb use data, stakeholder and public feedback, and industry best practices to identify how the City can better meet curb and sidewalk needs within Downtown. The Study kicked off in March 2026.
Curb management is the programs and policies that determine what activities are allowed or may be regulated within the public right-of-way related to parking, loading zones, sidewalk activations (such as displays, café seating, etc.), transit stops, and/or other sidewalk uses. As sidewalk and curb space is limited, demands on it can quickly come into conflict. By analyzing the current uses, identifying desirable activities, and developing policies and programs to address these issues, these spaces can be more effectively utilized and activated to complement and enhance the Downtown experience for residents, businesses, and visitors.
