COUNCIL DISTRICTS IMPACTED: Citywide

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The City requested qualifications from its prequalified professional services vendors for traffic engineering services, including studies; traffic signal design and timing; and signing, pavement marking, and traffic control plans. The goal of these contracts is to have consultants ready to assist with a variety of traffic engineering services on an as-needed basis and be available to evaluate and respond to citizen traffic improvement, neighborhood traffic calming, and operations/safety requests.

Thirteen (13) statements of qualifications were received and ranked based on knowledge and experience for these services. Staff recommends contracting with multiple vendors, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., Pape-Dawson Engineers, Inc., WSP USA, to support the services for an initial amount not to exceed $150,000.

ISSUE:

City growth, traffic request demands, and staff shortage identified the need to augment staff. The contract allows the City to support the needed services and be responsive to the community.

Strategic Priorities:

Continue to develop proactive programs for transportation engineering.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The Engineering Division of Public Works has funding earmarked for various studies and services.  Those funds will be dedicated to fund these services.  If these funds are not sufficient to cover the costs, vacancy savings from the staff shortages referenced above will be utilized.  Therefore, sufficient funds are available.
