BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The City’s Speed Hump Policy was adopted by the City Council in 1999. Staff is developing a new Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy to replace the existing policy to be more responsive to the community, address traffic safety issues and concerns, and develop a program to the latest state of the practice. Updating the 1999 Speed Hump Policy is a recommendation from the City’s Street Safety Action Plan adopted by the City Council in early 2024.

 

ISSUE:

The City’s Speed Hump Policy was adopted by the City Council in 1999 and is in need to be updated to the latest state of the practice.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Implementation of traffic calming plans approved in accordance with the new Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy will be funded through the annual dedicated traffic calming budget out of the General Fund.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends adoption of the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy to replace the existing Speed Hump Policy.
