BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

In the summer of 2022, the NBEDC reached consensus to support a series of capital improvement projects city-wide that it prioritized and ranked.  The citywide pedestrian project was one of the projects the NBEDC provided direction and previous funding to advance through project development and construction.  The project moved through preliminary design and was awarded federal funding for FY 2026 for $1.739M that provides approximately 80% of construction costs.  The community must contribute 20% of the construction and complete final design of the project.  This total amount is anticipated to be approximately $618,000, of which $200,000 is the amount needed to complete design of the project ahead of the anticipated funding award.

The AAMPO Citywide Pedestrian Project aims to increase pedestrian connectivity and safety by completing sidewalk gaps and addressing ADA concerns in the following five locations:

1. Alves Lane & Brooke Avenue

2. Christus Santa Rosa Area

3. Hinman Island Drive - final design funded by NBEDC in April 2023

4. County Line Road & FM 725

5. Oak Run Parkway - final design funded by NBEDC in April 2023

The $200,000 expenditure will fund the final design for sidewalk work at the Alves Lane & Brooke Avenue, Christus Santa Rosa Area, and County Line Road & FM 725 locations. If approved by the NBEDC, the item will be brought to City Council for final approval at an upcoming meeting. A future 20% construction funding match of approximately $418,000 will need to be identified at the completion of final design.
