BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The City of New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department has requested that the no parking ordinances for Cypress Bend Park be amended due to changes to the on-street parking along the west side of Jesse Guerrero Circle. Public parking was available on the west side of Jesse Guerrero Circle from the intersection with the south park road to the entrance of the next parking lot to the north. Vehicles were able to park parallel on the unpaved shoulder. Recent changes to the on-street parking created a series of paved, 90-degree angled parking spaces along a portion of Jesse Guerrero Circle. This effort was paired with the transition of parking in Cypress Bend Park to paid parking. With the new parking configuration, two-way through traffic can be maintained along Jesse Guerrero Circle. However, vehicles cannot continue to park on the unpaved shoulder on the remainder of the roadway. A revision to the existing no parking ordinance is requested to prohibit parking on the areas of Jesse Guerrero Circle that do not have designated paved on-street parking.

ISSUE:

The Parks and Recreation Department request updated ordinance language to support necessary parking restrictions in the park and to be able to post enforceable signs.
