BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

At the May 11, 2023 regular meeting, the TIRZ 3 Board discussed the creation of a grant program to assist in the fulfillment of goals and strategies adopted in the City’s 2010 Downtown Implementation Plan. The Plan identified the need to establish a funding source dedicated to downtown improvements, incentivizing infill occupancy and development for vacant space and lots, increasing the number of residents downtown, and other accessibility, circulation, and aesthetic enhancements within downtown. The TIRZ 3 Board continued grant program discussions on June 8, 2023 and July 13, 2023. Ultimately, at the August 25, 2023 meeting, TIRZ 3 approved the grant program policy and online application.

The New Braunfels City Council received an informative presentation on the proposed grant program at the City Council meeting on September 18, 2023 and approved a resolution establishing the TIRZ 3 Business Improvement & Preservation Grant Program at the October 23, 2023 meeting.

At the August 17, 2026 TIRZ 3 Meeting, board members requested a future discussion to review the current TIRZ 3 Grant Policy and consider any edits or revisions. Any proposed changes to the Grant Policy will require future action from the TIRZ 3 Board and final review and approval by City Council.
