BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The City Council directed staff to establish the posted speed limit on Mission Drive from the state-mandated speed of 30 miles per hour (MPH) to 25 MPH due to resident traffic safety concerns. The change in the posted speed limit will result in different speed limits on surrounding streets and uniformity of traffic signs and laws. Furthermore, a section of Laurel Lane and Encino Drive is posted at 25 MPH, which may confuse residents and motorists. The Transportation and Capital Improvements Department will present a pilot study to post a speed limit of 25 MPH in the residential area bounded by N Walnut Avenue, Wood Road, and Loop 337.
