BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On November 27, 2023, City Council unanimously approved the first reading of this Code Amendment (7-0-0).
In response to a request from City Council to examine the process for Conditional Sign Permits to look for potential efficiencies in review and approval, revisions to the following Chapters are proposed:
• Chapter 98, Planning to rename the Zoning Board of Adjustment to the Board of Adjustment to allow for additional duties beyond the scope of mere zoning.
• Chapter 106, Signs to establish the Board of Adjustment to consider conditional sign permits, as well as variances from the sign ordinance, and to revise the name of the Conditional Sign Permit to Alternative Sign Plan to more accurately reflect its purpose and clarify that it is not a “permit”.
• Chapter 144, Zoning to modify the name of the ZBA.
• Appendix D to reflect the modified name Alternative Sign Plan.
ISSUE:
Amendments to the ordinance are needed to align with changes requested by the City Council to assign sign reviews, variances, and approvals to an appropriate board or commission.
