COUNCIL DISTRICTS IMPACTED: 1, 5
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Downtown Traffic Signal Box Art Pilot Program Policy was initially proposed at a Downtown Board meeting on March 16, 2021, with follow-up discussions on April 20 and June 15, 2021. Although the Program was not finalized or launched, staff would like to refocus on increasing public art in Downtown. Street-level artwork could add to the vibrancy of Downtown while adding to the sense of place and identity.
ISSUE:
An amended Downtown Traffic Signal Box Art Pilot Program Policy is being presented for continued discussion and potential action. This Pilot Program may be expanded to additional traffic signal boxes in the City, outside of Downtown.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Seven Downtown traffic signal boxes have been identified for the Program, with an estimated cost of $10,671 to include professional design scaling, materials, installation, and an artist stipend.
Recommendation
RECOMMENDATION:
The Board review, discuss, and take potential action on the proposed program policy.
