BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City’s adopted 2024-2029 Strategic Plan includes objectives pertaining to public safety and fiscal sustainability.
As such, the City Council approved a resolution in February 2024 to support the grant application process, including the designation of the City Manager as the authorized official for funding provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, State Homeland Security Program - Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Activities program. This program is administered by the Office of the Governor, Public Safety Office, Homeland Security Grants Division’s State Homeland Security Program. In October 2024, the City was awarded funding for the purchase of a robot and accessories for unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs) to be used by the New Braunfels Police Department.
If approved, the updated resolution will now authorize the Director of Finance, or their designee, to act on behalf of the City in all matters related to the awarded grant, which will enhance efficiency as it relates to the administration of this grant.
ISSUE:
Approval of an updated resolution will ensure compliance with the administrative requirements of the granting agency.
