BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The UT-RSOC (University of Texas Regional Security Operations Center) provides free, around-the-clock cybersecurity protection to Texas public organizations-like school districts, city governments, colleges, and nonprofits. They offer simple, easy-to-use tools that quickly check for things like stolen passwords, website weaknesses, and email scams, as well as more advanced services that monitor networks and devices for signs of hacking. Their team reviews alerts, helps us understand risks, and works with our existing technology to strengthen our security without requiring major changes. All services are optional and tailored to our needs, making it easier and more cost effective for our organization to improve its cybersecurity.  Interlocal agreements are authorized for use by Texas Local Government Code 791.

ISSUE:

CyberSecurity threats are evolving and demand more advanced and complex tools to secure our environment.  Many of these tools are costly, and if affordable, would require additional staff resources, at significant costs, to effectively manage these tools.  Supplementing our CyberSecurity Defenses through an agreement such as this, especially at no cost, is a much needed addition to our security posture.
