BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Citywide Pedestrian Improvement Project - Phase 2 aims to increase pedestrian connectivity and safety by completing sidewalk gaps and addressing ADA concerns on Lincoln Street/Garden Street from Union Avenue to Seguin Avenue.

 

Staff solicited Kimley-Horn Associated from the city’s prequalified list of professional services based on their qualifications and experience on similar projects.  A scope and fee were negotiated for the final design of the Citywide Pedestrian Improvement Project - Phase 2, to provide engineering services related to pedestrian improvements and connectivity. The scope and fee presented by Kimley-Horn Associates, Inc., for the final design includes preparing construction documents and an opinion of probable construction costs.

 

The New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation (NBEDC) received a presentation and update on this project at the August 15, 2024, meeting and held a public hearing on December 11, 2024, where the project expenditure was unanimously approved.

 

ISSUE:

Continue an ongoing program of infrastructure construction and maintenance.

The final design funding request is $90,000; the NBEDC has sufficient funds and approved the expenditure of funds on December 11, 2024.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of a contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., not to exceed $90,000 for the final design of the Citywide Pedestrian Improvement Project -  Phase 2.
