BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
In an effort to improve the city’s parking by permit process, the language concerning annual permit distribution will be simplified in order to give staff more options for distributing permits to residents residing in a parking by permit area. The $5.00 deposit currently required to receive 20 temporary daily permits has resulted in logistics issues for staff to collect and hold the deposit until the permits are returned. Any revenue generated by unclaimed deposits has been minimal, leading the City Manager’s Office to recommend removing the deposit requirement. The temporary daily permits are paper with clear expiration dates printed on them, meaning there is little expense to the city, and the passes are not good for more than one day, preventing abuse of the temporary daily permits.
