BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

There are assignment pays within the New Braunfels Fire Department that certain members perform that are not performed by every Fire Department civil service team member. Section 143.042(c) of the Texas Local Government Code requires that the governing body set forth in an ordinance the amount of assignment pay and the conditions under which it is to be payable to member of the Fire Department that meet the stated criteria.

The New Braunfels Fire Department is updating assignment pay to reflect new special assignment positions. Special Duty Assignments leaders in areas of Hazardous Material, Technical Rescue, Dive Team and Wildland Firefighting will receive assignment pay of $69.23/pay period as do active arson investigators who perform these duties as part of their regular assignment. This item does not eliminate any assignment pay just adds other qualifying special assignments previously listed.

Members assigned to support roles who work a non-traditional 40-hour work week receive assignment pay to make them whole as referenced in the chart below which is adopted annually in the approved budget.
