BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Public Works Streets Division was authorized to purchase several pieces of heavy equipment in the FY 2024 Budget. This equipment includes a roadside sprayer, a water truck, two street rollers and a flatbed body.
The water truck is a new request that will be used for road rehab and reconstruction. The department currently has one water truck and requested an additional truck to support multiple crews who are working multiple projects. Due to the reconstruction process it is necessary to have two trucks. Staff are recommending the purchase from Chastang Autocar utilizing a BuyBoard cooperative contract.
The roadside sprayer truck is a new request needed for the application of herbicides to city right of ways, roadside and drainage maintenance. The sprayer will also support winter season freezes for deicing streets, driveways, bridges and over passes throughout the city. Staff are recommending the purchase from Bluebonnet Motors, Inc utilizing a city contract.
The Streets Division was also authorized to replace two drum rollers in the FY 2024 Budget. The Cat Smooth Drum roller and the Weiler Pneumatic are small rollers that are used daily. The street rollers are used for paving jobs, of all sizes. The existing rollers are time-worn, and their conditions are unreliable. The rollers are used in a critical part of the road maintenance process and necessary for continued maintenance. Staff are recommending the purchase from Holt CAT utilizing a Sourcewell cooperative contract.
Staff are also requesting the purchase of a flatbed body that will be fitted to a Ford F450 Truck for Streets Drainage. The Ford F450 truck was authorized in the FY 2024 Budget and by City Council for purchase on October 9, 2023.

This equipment, as listed above have long lead times with expected delivery in second quarter of 2024.
ISSUE:
Staff are requesting new and replacement vehicles and equipment to maintain fiscal stability of city operations.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The costs for the vehicles and equipment described above are allocated in the FY 2024 General Fund, Stormwater Development Fund, and the 2023 Tax Notes budgets. Therefore, sufficient funds are available.
