BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Traffic Signal Art Box Program was an idea originally proposed at a Downtown Board meeting in March 2021 to increase the availability of public art in the downtown area.
The Downtown Board approved the Downtown Traffic Signal Box Art Policy at its March 19, 2024 meeting. Since approval, an Art Selection Committee formed, a call for art submissions released, and community members provided over 60 eligible submissions. Public Works reviewed the artwork and the Art Selection Committee met on April 29, 2025 to individually score all the submissions.
The Art Selection Committee met again on June 5, 2025 to discuss the finalist rankings and provide seven (7) recommended artworks for Downtown Board consideration.
ISSUE:
Over 60 pieces of art were submitted for consideration. The Traffic Signal Box Art Selection Committee met to score all entries, and seven (7) finalists have been formally recommended. The artworks must be approved by the Downtown Board and will then be affixed to traffic signal boxes downtown this summer.
