BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Fire Department
The FY 2027 Adopted Budget does not include any changes to the number of authorized uniform positions in the Fire Department. The total uniformed FTEs remain consistent with the classifications and funding approved in the Adopted Budget.
Police Department
The FY 2027 Adopted Budget includes three additional uniformed positions for the Police Department: two (2) School Resource Officers and one (1) position to support a Detective assignment. The Detective role is an assignment rather than a separate rank, so the budget reflects this addition by including one additional Police Officer position dedicated to that assignment. These changes align with the positions and funding included in the FY 2027 Adopted Budget.
A title correction was made to the Police Department Strength of Force table, updating “Captain” to “Deputy Chief” as previously approved in Ordinance 2026-21 on April 13, 2026. Staff identified the error on September 24, 2026 and notified the City Secretary’s Office, which provided the corrected ordinance on the dais at the September 28, 2026 Council Meeting for the first reading of the FY 2027 Strength of Force Ordinance. The Strength of Force numbers were not affected. The ordinance passed unanimously at this meeting.
