Approval to ratify the submission of a grant application to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for the Libraries and Literacy Grant in the amount of $4,000 to purchase library equipment and authorizing the City Manager to accept funds and to execute all contract documents associated with the grant, if awarded.

BACKGROUND / RATIONALE:
Through a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) is working to enhance partnerships between local libraries and adult education and literacy (AEL) providers. Libraries serving populations of more than 25,000 are eligible for up to a $4,000 grant for reimbursement of eligible expenditures.
To better enhance our partnerships with Region 20 (Evening ESL classes & GED classes) and Alamo Colleges (Morning ESL classes) offered at the Westside Community Center we have requested reimbursement for the following equipment:
• Rosetta Stone software (stand-alone)
• Mounted projector for classroom
• Dell laptops
• Buy program seats through Alamo Colleges for I-BEST programs
The grant program is available on a first-come, first-served basis until available grant funds are depleted. Therefore, staff submitted the grant application early on January 19, 2017, prior to the deadline of February 24, 2017.
Grant determination date is scheduled on March 31, 2017.
