BACKGROUND / RATIONALE:

Staff has submitted a grant application to the State Homeland Security Program on September 30, 2016. Notification of project approval was received January 2017.  Request for a resolution showing City Council approval is required through this grant.

The purpose of this grant request is to provide the region with another hazardous materials team that can rapidly indentify an  unknown substance which will allow for shorter mitigation times.  The end result is the capability to rapidly identify a hazardous material thereby lessening the threat to public safety, reducing environmental damage, and returning the affected area back to its pre-hazardous state.

 

Final determination is anticipated September 2017. There is no match requirement for this grant.
