Discuss and consider approval of a resolution of the City Council of the City of New Braunfels, Texas, ordering a special election to be held in the City of New Braunfels, Texas, on February 17, 2018, to fill the unexpired term for Councilmember, District 1; establishing an early voting location and a polling place for this election; and making provisions for the conduct of the election.

BACKGROUND / RATIONALE:
State law requires special elections to fill unexpired terms be held as soon as practicable and for the seat to be filled within 120 days.
Early voting will occur at the Comal County Elections Office, 396 North Seguin Avenue., from January 31 to February 13, 2018.
Election Day locations will be at: Westside Community Center, 2932 S IH35
The City Secretary has worked with the Comal County Elections Office to confirm that the City’s February 17 Election Day is prior to the beginning of early voting (February 20) for the March 6 Primary.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost for the election will be approximately $12,000 for Early Voting workers, Election Day workers, supplies, and training.
