SUBJECT:

Title

Approval of awarding annual contracts to American Abatement, Flash Demolition, Hansco, Inc. and JR Ramon & Sons, Inc. to provide demolition services for City-designated structures, on an as-needed basis.

Body

BACKGROUND / RATIONALE:

The City of New Braunfels issued a bid on October 1, 2020 seeking multiple qualified contractors to provide demolition services for City-designated buildings or structures, including being able to support federally-funded projects, on an as-needed basis. The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the removal of all construction materials from the jobsite, including the building slab, the removal of all debris, and backfill of all voids created by demolition.

The City received five (5) bid responses which was opened on October 23, 2020. The bids were evaluated based upon criteria such as company background, qualifications, experience, references, prior work with the City and proposal pricing. Staff evaluated responses and are recommending multiple awards to ensure services are readily available when needed. One (1) of the responses received did not include their pricing so could not be considered for award.

The base term of the contract will begin upon award through October 31, 2023. Additionally, there are two, one-year options to renew the contract. These contracts are for on-call work with established pricing.  As staff anticipate projects that are greater than $25,000, they will be brought for City Council approval, as per section 9.17.
