COUNCIL DISTRICTS IMPACTED: All

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Council previously approved the original contract with Knight Security on September 27, 2021 in the amount of $574,641 for work at the new Police Station, Westside Library, Fire Station #2 and other Video Surveillance infrastructure.  A second contract with Knight Security was approved on October 25, 2021 for Video Surveillance and Access Control at Fire Station #3.  At the time, no video surveillance was included for Fire Station #3. Additionally, modern Access Control, mainly proximity badge readers, was not included as the original plan called for keyed access to these Fire Stations.

ISSUE:

While the original proposals and contracts were being finalized and approved, the City established a new set of building standards related to Video Surveillance and Access Control. These standards include external Video Surveillance for all buildings, along with modern Access Control that can be centrally managed. The Change Orders included in this item are a direct result of these new building standards and allow the City to finish construction on Fire Station #2 and #3 with the same standards applied to both buildings.

Fire Station #2 change order is in the amount of $38,890.44, resulting in a new contract amount of $49,983.17.

Fire Station #3 change order is in the amount of $23,315.60, resulting in a new contract amount of $56,206.04.

The City is utilizing Knight Security through a Department of Information Resource cooperative contract that meets competitive bid requirements.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funds to support these change orders are available within the Fire Station #2 and #3 project budgets approved through the 2019 bond program. Therefore, sufficient funds are available.
