COUNCIL DISTRICTS IMPACTED: 1
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Staff received a request from a resident of The Meadows of Morningside subdivision to investigate and provide an engineering solution to the number of vehicles that park along Red River Lane and Cherokee Boulevard during school pick-up and drop-off for Morningside Elementary School. Because the city is not able to enforce operational changes to the school’s pick-up and drop-off, the only potential option would be a no parking zone along Red River Lane and/or Cherokee Boulevard. Staff completed a traffic study to evaluate this option in March of 2022. The summary of that study is attached.
ISSUE:
A resident of The Meadows of Morningside has concerns about traffic flow and pedestrian safety due to vehicles using Red River Lane and Cherokee Boulevard during school drop-off and pick-up.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Traffic control signs cost approximately $150 each. Sufficient funding is available in the FY 2022 approved streets and drainage budget.
Recommendation
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff does not recommend installing no parking zones on Red River Lane or Cherokee Boulevard.
