BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City of New Braunfels Fiscal Year 2022 Annual Budget authorized an amount of $54,060 for a renovation of the main library teen area. This renovation consists of creating partitions for entry, a gaming area and additional furniture. This new area will create some sound mitigation and create a larger space with additional library material collection capacity and additional furniture for teens to use for study and as a gathering space.
The furniture recommendations have been developed through the cooperation of city staff and the vendor in consideration of staff needs, design esthetics, durability, maintainability, and pricing. Library Interiors has supported design and furniture requirements for other projects for the main library and the Westside branch and understands our design requirements and needs.
The Teen Area will be outfitted by Library Interiors at a cost of $57,333, which includes installation. Staff are recommending a 5% contingency ($3,367) to be added to the contract amount at the City’s discretion as needed to support unexpected needs. The total request is $60,700. The City will utilize the cooperative agreement through Choice Partners to procure the best pricing.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding for these costs have been incorporated into the fiscal year 2022 library capital program budget. Library general budget has available surplus to cover the additional cost.
