BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Texas Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (TX FAME) is a partnership of regional manufacturers whose purpose is to implement workforce development initiatives across Texas. TX FAME’s primary focus is to develop and grow a skilled pipeline of workers through the engagement of the current and future workforce in partnership with industry and the community. FAME is an industry-led talent pipeline program that engages PreK-12 systems, community colleges, and universities in a highly coordinated, seamless model known as the FAME Career Pathway. A local FAME chapter is comprised of employers, an institution of higher education, non-profit education organizations, workforce and economic development organizations, governmental entities, and other stakeholders to facilitate the preparation of global-best, entry-level multiskilled maintenance technicians. The group solicited and identified an interested college partner to create a mutually beneficial education partnership modeled on the national Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) program.
Industry and regional economic development partners formed the Central Texas Chapter of TX FAME in 2022 with an anticipated launch date of Fall 2023. Since forming the local chapter, the group solicited a higher education provider and has coordinated with that provider to begin planning for the initial cohort, which also involves the purchase of a significant amount of machinery and equipment that will form the basis of the experiential components of the curriculum.
The consortium of local manufacturers and other stakeholders, including New Braunfels economic development, are identifying companies to participate in the inaugural cohort in the Fall of 2023 at the Central Texas Technology Center. The group has identified an education partner, a facility, employers and an initial cohort. The chapter is trying to identify funding partners for the purchase of equipment that will be utilized in the training of regional workforce.
