BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
City Council previously approved the Fire Department’s request to purchase three new squad rescue units in the FY 2023 Budget, and one ladder truck supported with the 2022 Tax Note.
Staff are recommending the purchase of a Pierce Custom Enforcer Aerial ladder truck from Siddons-Martin Emergency Group. This truck is a replacement truck for the ladder truck which currently responds from Fire Station 1. The replacement truck will be retained as a reserve aerial apparatus. The ladder truck will be available for delivery in the next two months.
Staff also recommend the purchase of the three new 2023 F550 rescue trucks also from Siddons-Martin Emergency Group. These units will be used as squad vehicles in three of the Fire Department’s stations, responding in place of heavy apparatus on certain call types and reducing the wear on those units. These units are in production and will be available in 12-18 months.
Staff are also requesting the purchase of one ambulance remount (Medic 5) from Rush Truck Center at a cost of $232,878. This is a front-line unit that is classified high risk due to high mileage.
The city will utilize a BuyBoard cooperative agreement for these purchases which meets the competitive procurement requirements. The costs include Buyboard fees with total purchase costs as follows:

FISCAL IMPACT:
The FY 2023 Capital Funds - 2019 Bond Program, includes the cost for the three squad rescue trucks and the ambulance remount. The previously approved 2022 Tax Note will be used to support the ladder truck; therefore, sufficient funds are available for all vehicles.
