BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Staff is requesting approval for four (4) light duty F150 trucks; one for the New Braunfels Regional Airport and three for the Public Works Solid Waste Division.  Staff is also requesting approval of one heavy duty dump truck and various street equipment for the Public Works Streets Division, as listed below.  These vehicles are a combination of replacement vehicles that are being retired from services, and new vehicles for departmental use. There is also various equipment included in the request, primarily to expand the efficiency and productivity of the streets maintenance division (Motor Grader, Roller, Emulsion Storage Tank). As with many other commodities, these vehicles and equipment may experience long lead times, which is why staff worked diligently to bring the purchase forward for City Council consideration as soon as possible. All of these vehicles and equipment were initiatives incorporated into the FY 2023 Adopted Budget.

The City will be utilizing a city contract with Blue Bonnet Motors and several cooperative contracts:  Chastang Autocar through BuyBoard, John Deere c/o Tellus Equipment through BuyBoard, John Deere c/o RDO Equipment Co. through Sourcewell, Holt CAT through Sourcewell, and Total Patcher through BuyBoard.

In addition, staff recommends declaring the replaced vehicles surplus which allows for the future sale of the vehicles.
