BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The previously approved Ordinance 23-1170 recognized the nine additional Firefighter positions included in the FY 2024 Proposed Budget for the Fire Department. Additionally, the previously approved Ordinance amended the title for the Battalion Chief rank to Battalion Chief/Division Chief, and due to some internal adjustments, temporarily increased the rank of Battalion Chief/Division Chief by one full-time equivalent (FTE) pending the scheduling of a Battalion Chief/Division Chief exam to determine an eligibility list for promotion. This portion of the Strength of Force change is temporary in nature and will be brought back to City Council for adjustment after the City holds a Battalion Chief/Division Chief exam in January 2024.

This amendment proposes to add ten (10) additional Firefighters from the $3.4 million grant awarded to the City from the Federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program, as well as reclassify three (3) Firefighter positions to the rank of Engineer to assist in adequate staffing for Fire Station No. 7.
