BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Street Safety Action Plan task force is established and charged with the plan’s development, implementation, and monitoring. Between 2018 and 2022, 6,695 crashes occurred within the New Braunfels City Limits and Extra Territorial Jurisdiction. Forty-two of these crashes were fatal, and 236 of these crashes caused serious injuries. To build infrastructure that can help prevent future severe and fatal crashes, the City of New Braunfels is in the process of creating its Street Safety Action Plan. This plan will make recommendations of new policies, programs, and projects to achieve the goal of ending severe and fatal roadway crashes on City of New Braunfels Roads.  This plan will also qualify the City of New Braunfels for federal Safe Streets for All grants, aiding the city in implementing roadway infrastructure designed to keep New Braunfels residents safe. One federal requirement for the Action Plan is that a committee, task force, implementation group, or similar body be charged with the plan’s development, implementation, and monitoring. By charging the Transportation and Traffic Advisory Board to serve as the City of New Braunfels Street Safety Action Plan Task Force, the City opens new opportunities for federal infrastructure funding and ensures that future Street Safety programs and projects are heard by a core group of engaged citizens.
