BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
For at least the last fifteen years, New Braunfels Municipal Court has utilized the Texas Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) FAILURE TO APPEAR Program to encourage compliance with the law and compel resolution of court fines and fees when a person fails to appear or fails to pay or satisfy a judgment as required by law. This Interlocal Cooperation Contract will allow the court to continue reporting information regarding violators subject to the provisions of Texas Transportation Code Chapter 706 to the FTA program. And then, DPS can deny renewal of a driver license to a person who is the subject of non-compliance with the law and court requirements.
ISSUE:
Compliance with the law and efficient operations.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no cost to the City for this service. The cost is paid by the violator/defendant in court fees forwarded to the State of Texas for disbursement.

Staff recommends approval of this Interlocal Cooperative Contract.
