BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

This commission was established by ordinance in 1961. It is a defunct commission with 26 members appointed by the Mayor, including students from New Braunfels High School, Canyon High School and Smithson Valley High School. It was to meet as needed to advise the City Council on matters pertaining to the reduction of crime and to assist the police department and other law enforcement agencies in successfully reducing crime. It was also designed to make the community more aware of crime prevention measures and drug awareness programs in the community. This commission has not met in over 25 years.

 

ISSUE:

This ordinance establishing the Safe City Commission is outdated and needs to be repealed. Staff is attempting to clean up the Code of Ordinances by repealing outdated ordinances when the opportunity arises.
