The City of New Braunfels was recently honored by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society (TRAPS), which annually recognizes excellence and innovation in the field of parks and recreation across the state of Texas. New Braunfels was one of 29 cities that received an award this year spanning various categories and highlighting achievements in administration, management, programming, facility design, community engagement, and more.

New Braunfels was honored in the field of Park Development Innovation for the biofiltration system recently added to the Landa Park Aquatic Complex (LPAC). The LPAC parking lot recently received a major upgrade thanks to the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Program, the City of New Braunfels TCI Department, and the City of New Braunfels Public Works Department - Watershed Management Division. The renovation project completely replaced the existing parking lot and included a brand new bioswale and drainage structure that ensures no pollutants or sediment end up flowing into the Comal River.

“The City of New Braunfels works hard year-round to keep our natural environment healthy and strong,” said Parks and Recreation Director Chad Donegan. “We were thrilled to receive this award on behalf of the City and our other partners on this project and are honored to be counted among those cities across the state that are contributing to and fostering healthy, vibrant communities throughout Texas.”

The Texas Recreation and Park Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the field of parks and recreation in Texas. With a focus on education, advocacy, and networking, TRAPS provides resources and support to professionals and organizations involved in parks and recreation management across the state.
