Presentation on activities for Bike Month celebrated during the month of May.

BACKGROUND / RATIONALE:
May is National Bike Month and there will be bike activities within the region and the City of New Braunfels throughout the month. Forty percent of all trips in the U.S. are less than two miles, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get to work. With increased interest in healthy, sustainable and economic transportation options, it is not surprising that from 2000-2013 the number of bicycle commuters in the U.S. grew by more than 62 percent.
The Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) is organizing the 2nd Annual Alamo Area Bike to Work Day on May 17, 2019 and has selected New Braunfels to be a host Energizer station.
Information is available on the National Bike Month website and calendar. Staff encourages everyone in the community to get out and enjoy bike month.
